North Lakes seniors are invited to connect, celebrate and discover the support available in their community at the free Connecting Seniors Expo on Tuesday, 27 October.
Held from 9.30am to 1pm, the BlueCare event will bring local service providers and community groups together in one accessible location, helping older residents and their families learn more about services, programs and support.
Rebecca Winstanley, Community Engagement Lead, Brisbane North Region, said the event is also about something more fundamental.
“Loneliness fades when we feel connected, valued and included,” Rebecca said.
“Keeping older people socially connected is so important in helping to reduce social isolation and loneliness.”
Morning Tea, Live Music, and Essential Support
Held as part of Seniors Month celebrations, the expo will include a free morning tea and live entertainment from The Lovely Daze Duo from 10am to 11am. Visitors will also be able to browse stalls, learn about aged care services and products, and speak directly with people who can help make navigating the aged care system a little less overwhelming.
The event is aimed at seniors, but family members, loved ones and carers are also welcome to attend. Bookings are required for the musical performance from 10am to 11am due to venue capacity. Those wishing to browse the expo stalls between 11am and 1pm can simply come along without booking.
Rebecca said she was particularly looking forward to recognising the people at the heart of the day.
“I’m most looking forward to celebrating the older people in our community and saying thank you for their contributions,” she said.
For more information and to reserve a place for the performance, call 1300 258 322 and ask to be connected to D3.
