Moreton City Pickleball invites the community to celebrate World Pickleball Day with a special challenge to raise awareness and funds for mental health.

From 10am on Saturday, 10 October to 10am on Sunday, 11 October, players of all abilities will take part in 24 hours of continuous pickleball, with the goal of raising $10,000 for the White Cloud Foundation.

Organised by Moreton City Pickleball Club committee members Joanne Stephenson, Andy Bell and Lorraine Kleinschmidt, the event aims to give back to a pickleball community that has supported their own mental wellbeing while connecting locals with professional mental health support.

Joanne said the idea of combining the 24-hour challenge with mental health awareness came from “looking at what pickleball does so well.”

“It brings people together, gets people active and creates a really strong sense of community,” Joanne said. “We wanted to take those things and use them to support something that affects so many people.

“However, we also wanted to do something challenging and a little bit crazy, something fun and true to who we are as a club.

“The idea of playing continuously for 24 hours represents the message we want to send, that support for mental health shouldn’t stop.”

Fellow committee member Andy Bell said the White Cloud Foundation removes barriers to mental health support and has a strong connection to Queensland’s sporting communities.

“A massive reason behind pickleball’s explosive rise is its accessibility – anyone of any age, background, or physical ability can grab a paddle, step onto a court, and instantly belong,” Andy said. “That shared philosophy of total inclusion between our sport, our club, and the White Cloud Foundation makes this partnership a natural fit, and we are proud to stand behind them.”

Andy said that World Pickleball Day was a moment to pause and celebrate everything pickleball had brought into their lives.

“It’s an opportunity to acknowledge the friendships built on the courts, reflect on how much the game has grown, and spread that passion just a little further across our local community,” he said.

Joanne and Andy said that while raising funds is vital, they also hoped players, families and spectators would walk away with memories of a truly unique day.

“Whether you’ve never held a paddle before, haven’t played in years, or step onto the court every single day, everyone is welcome to come down, cheer us on, or join in the fun,” Joanne said.
