For one North Lakes family, Halloween isn’t just about dressing up and giving out a few lollies. It’s a year-round project that sees their home transformed into one of the area’s spookiest displays.
Sam Evans and her husband Brendan, along with their daughters Scarlett and Harper, are the family behind Cursed on Conway.
This year marks the fourth year of Cursed on Conway, with the family spending months planning, creating, building and styling their Halloween haunt. What awaits visitors is a creepy walkthrough filled with chilling scenes, creepy characters and plenty of spooky surprises.
Sam said the idea had started with the family’s love of Halloween and a little inspiration from across the world.
“We have always loved Halloween and after being inspired by videos of US displays we decided to have a go at making our own,” Sam said.
What started as an attempt to create their own Halloween display has grown into a major family project. Planning, creating, styling and construction are all handled by the family members, with the work continuing throughout the year.
In fact, planning for the next Halloween begins as soon as the current one is over.
“Planning for the next year begins on 1 November, building and creating is a year-round job and it all starts coming together in late August,” Sam said.
The family introduces new themes and changes existing scenes each year, so there is something chilling to discover, even if you’ve braved the haunt before.
For 2026, the family is promising a mix of old favourites and new terrors, with Cursed on Conway shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.
“We challenge you to enter… if you dare!” Sam said.
A Family Passion for Halloween
For the first time, spooky goodies will also be available to purchase, while friends will join the family on Halloween night to help make trick or treating even more fun.
The haunt will be open from 4pm on 31 October, giving visitors plenty of time to explore the spooky display and see what new terrors the family has created this year.
For Sam and her family, though, the biggest reward is sharing something they love with the local community.
“Simply put, we really love Halloween and being able to share that is a lot of fun,” she said. “It’s even better now that more people are getting in the spooky spirit!”
