Exercise isn’t only about getting fit. The right movement can help you recover from injury, manage an ongoing health condition, maintain independence as you age – or simply feel stronger and more confident in your everyday life.

That’s the philosophy behind INK Exercise Physiology, a Kallangur-based service helping people use individually prescribed exercise to improve their health, recovery, movement and performance.

Led by Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Exercise Scientist and Clinical Pilates Instructor Belinda Denniss, INK provides one-on-one, evidence-based exercise programs for every body.

And there’s certainly no one-size-fits-all workout here.

What Does an Exercise Physiologist Do?

If you’ve heard the term Exercise Physiologist but aren’t quite sure what one does, you’re probably not alone.

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist uses exercise as part of the management and treatment of a wide range of health conditions, injuries and physical limitations.

At INK Exercise Physiology, every new client begins with an individual assessment covering their health and medical history, current physical capacity, movement and personal goals. From there, Belinda develops an exercise treatment plan tailored specifically to the individual.

That might mean helping someone rebuild strength after surgery, improving balance and mobility for an older adult, supporting someone living with a chronic health condition or helping an athlete safely return to peak performance.

Exercise Tailored to You

At INK, every session is conducted one-on-one, allowing exercise to be adapted to each person’s condition, goals and capacity.

Programs incorporate five important areas of professional exercise prescription – aerobic fitness, strength, core stability, balance and mobility – with the combination varying according to what each client needs.

Belinda works with people managing conditions including heart disease, hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, respiratory conditions and chronic pain.

She also provides musculoskeletal and post-surgical rehabilitation for issues such as back, neck, shoulder and knee pain, soft tissue injuries, joint replacements and sports injuries.

The aim isn’t simply to exercise more. It’s to exercise in a way that is safe, purposeful and appropriate for your body.

Clinical Pilates in Kallangur

For people who enjoy Pilates – or have been advised that it could form part of their rehabilitation – INK also offers Clinical Pilates using both mat and reformer exercises.

Rather than following a general class program, Clinical Pilates can be incorporated into an individual treatment plan to address areas such as core strength, postural issues, movement quality, coordination and musculoskeletal conditions.

Belinda is trained in Pilates matwork and equipment from beginner through to advanced levels, allowing exercises to be modified according to each person’s needs and ability.

Supporting Independence Through Movement

INK Exercise Physiology

Exercise can become particularly important as we get older or when living with a disability.

INK provides NDIS Exercise Physiology services, with programs that may focus on improving strength, mobility, balance, coordination, endurance and independence with everyday activities.

Exercise Physiology services are also available for older adults through eligible aged care programs, with an emphasis on maintaining mobility and independence, reducing falls risk and building confidence.

Other funded services include DVA and WorkCover Queensland, alongside privately funded appointments.

From Rehabilitation to Performance

INK Exercise Physiology

You don’t need to have an injury or health condition to see an Exercise Physiologist.

INK also works with athletes and active people looking to improve strength, conditioning, endurance and sport-specific performance.

It’s an area Belinda knows personally.

An active endurance cyclist, bodybuilder and fitness enthusiast herself, she combines her clinical qualifications with an understanding of training and performance. Her additional qualifications include Strength and Conditioning, Kinetic Link Training, nutrition coaching and hydrotherapy for chronic disease.

For someone transitioning out of rehabilitation, Clinical Personal Training can also provide a useful bridge between clinical care and more independent exercise.

Allied Health Care Under One Roof

Another benefit of INK’s Kallangur location is that Belinda works as part of a multidisciplinary allied health team alongside physiotherapists, chiropractors, psychologists and remedial massage therapists.

This collaborative environment can be particularly valuable for people whose health, injury or rehabilitation needs involve more than one area of care.

For Belinda, the focus is ultimately on giving people the knowledge and confidence to take a more active role in their own health.

Whether that means getting back on your feet following an injury, maintaining your independence, learning how to exercise safely with a health condition or chasing a new sporting goal, movement can be a powerful place to start.
