From escape rooms and ice cream to seaside strolls and heritage markets, there are plenty of ways to get grandparents, parents and kids together around North Lakes.

Grandparents Day falls on Sunday, 25 October, giving families the perfect excuse to get together. And you don’t need to plan an elaborate day out or travel a long way to find something everyone can enjoy. Whether your family likes a bit of healthy competition, prefers a relaxed day outside or enjoys a wander through the markets, there’s something to suit.

For the Competitive Family

Get the whole family working together at Red Lock Escape Rooms at Westfield North Lakes. Escape rooms are a great option for multi-generational groups because everyone can bring something different to the challenge. Grandparents might spot a clue that everyone else has missed, while teenagers can put their lateral-thinking skills to work. Choose a room to suit your group, then head for ice cream once you’ve escaped – or admitted defeat.

For the Relaxed Family

If your idea of a good family day involves fresh air, a change of scenery and plenty of time to chat, head to Deception Bay. Take a stroll along the waterfront, watch the boats and birds or pack a picnic and find a shady spot to sit together. And if the family dog is part of the crew, you can bring them along too. There’s no need to rush, so everyone can enjoy the day at their own pace.

For the History Lovers

Spend some time exploring Old Petrie Town, where heritage buildings, market stalls, food and open spaces give everyone something to discover. Browse the Sunday markets, have a wander through the historic village and stop for something to eat while you’re there. The markets run every Sunday from 7am to 1pm, including Grandparents Day itself.

For the Playful Family

For something a little different, head to Hey Caddy North Lakes for a round of mini golf. It’s easy for different generations to join in, and you can take your time playing the 18-hole course. Just don’t be surprised if a little family competition creeps in along the way!

Whichever style suits your family, Grandparents Day is an opportunity to spend some quality time together.
