Award-winning crime author Sarah Bailey will meet local readers this month to discuss her new thriller, Click

Sarah will appear at North Lakes Library on Saturday, 16 April, as part of City of Moreton Bay’s Meet the Author series.

“I’ll be talking about the experience of writing Click as well as my other books and how I go about researching and drafting,” she said. “I’ll also be giving an update on The Dark Lake TV series and a hint about my next book.”

Sarah is the bestselling author of the Gemma Woodstock crime series, which began with her award-winning debut, The Dark Lake (2017). The novel won both the Ned Kelly Award for Best First Fiction and the Davitt Award for Best Debut, and is currently being adapted for television. She continued the series with several acclaimed follow-ups. In 2021, she introduced a new protagonist with The Housemate, journalist Oli Groves.

Inside the New Thriller Click

“The events in Click take place several years after The Housemate and Oli has evolved significantly as a character,” she said. “She’s now a small business owner, single and navigating a serious health issue. She has a lot going on! I also introduced a new character, Penelope Kibbs, because I wanted to provide a counterbalance to Oli’s media view with one of a police detective.”

A Melbourne-based writer, Sarah is the managing director of the Melbourne and Sydney offices of an advertising agency and the founder of social media brand and podcast, He Read, She Read. She said that while she wasn’t sure that her advertising career had influenced her storytelling, it had certainly helped her manage deadlines and feedback.

“I’m sure it also honed my observational skills and taught me a lot about people and the way they think, which is always helpful for character development,” she said.

Attendees at the North Lakes Library event can purchase a copy of Click and have it signed by Sarah.

“A book tour is such a nice way to celebrate the completion of the book-writing process,” Sarah said. “I love hearing from readers about what they liked and even about what they didn’t like about my books. I really enjoy getting feedback on my work.

“I would like to say a big thanks to everyone who has read my books. I really appreciate the support!”
