For many locals, cycling is more than just exercise or getting around riding a bike. It’s about friendship, fitness and sharing the open road with people who enjoy the same passion.

That’s what Moreton Bay Cycling Club (MBCC) has been offering its members for more than a decade.

Club president Norman Rhind said MBCC had come a long way since the early days.

“The club actually started out as Dutton Cycles Racing in 2010,” he said. “In 2012, the committee decided to change the name to Moreton Bay Cycling Club to better represent the community we were building.”

Today, MBCC has more than 400 members, with 125 regularly participating in rides. The club welcomes cyclists of all ages and abilities, with a strong focus on making riders feel comfortable and supported.

As a former runner, Norman has always enjoyed the freedom of just being on the go. With running injuries pushing him into pedal power, Norman joined MBCC six years ago, hoping to learn some pointers about riding in a group.

“There are rules and etiquette which have to be adhered to,” he said. “I thought I’d learn that and quit in a few weeks. What I found was a great group of people who were friendly, chatty, knowledgeable and shared an enthusiasm for keeping fit and so all these years later, I’m still here.”

Group Rides and Community Connection

Saturday morning rides cater for a range of skill levels, with riders divided into four groups. All rides finish with coffee and conversation. Additional rides are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. All rides depart North Lakes at 5.30am in summer and 6am in winter.
