Pickleball is gaining popularity across North Lakes, bringing people of all ages and skill levels together.

Combining elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, it’s a fun and social way to stay active – and it’s easy to learn and play.

Ash Playford, Business Manager at Matchpoint Tennis Australia, said there had been a noticeable rise in interest.

“Pickleball is quickly becoming one of the most popular sports on the northside of Brisbane,” Ash said. “It’s fast, fun and perfect for all ages.

“At Matchpoint, we focus on fun, community and helping players improve each time they play. My advice is to learn to ‘dink’ – a soft shot over the net that helps you control the point.”

At PCYC Deception Bay, Club Manager Rebekah Stokes said she had noticed the social benefits of the game.

“Pickleball brings people together – it’s all about having a laugh, staying active and being part of something bigger,” Rebekah said. “Everyone’s welcome and every game makes a difference.”

Moreton City Pickleball has expanded rapidly to meet growing demand. They offer sessions tailored for different ages and skill levels throughout the week. Most sessions are volunteer-run and focus on fostering a welcoming community.

Darren Smith, Club Vice President, said the club’s growth had been shaped by its strong community values.

“As a club, we highly value community and fun, and that shines through to everyone who comes to play,” Darren said.

“We always have people comment on the incredible community they find here. Personally, it’s helped me immensely in my mental health journey.”

Whether you’re looking to try something new, meet new people or improve your skills, there are plenty of local opportunities to pick up a paddle and join in the fun.
