Get ready to be swept away on an enchanting underwater adventure as the talented Year 4–6 students of The Lakes College Primary School take to the stage with Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.

This vibrant, family-friendly production brings to life all your favourite characters – Ariel, Sebastian, Ursula, Flotsam, Jetsam and more – in a magical story about dreams, courage and finding your voice. With colourful costumes, catchy songs and big personalities, the show promises to transport audiences of all ages to a whimsical world beneath the ocean.

Behind the Scenes of the Magical Production

Katrina Wellins, Director of Performing Arts, said the audience could expect plenty of singing, fabulous dance routines and lots of high energy.

“It’s going to be so much fun!” Katrina said. “It’s been a real team effort. We have around 50 people involved across cast and crew, including support from some of our secondary students.

“It’s been a great opportunity for the older students to take on leadership roles behind the scenes – it helps the younger ones grow in confidence, too.”

Rehearsals began early in Term 1, with weekly Thursday afternoon sessions and a dedicated holiday intensive to get ready for the big performance weekend. From learning lines and songs to choreographing dances and building sets, it all came together thanks to the huge commitment from everyone involved.

The cast is buzzing with excitement. Josie, who plays the show’s villain, Ursula, said she was thrilled to land such an important role.

“I was so excited!” she said. “I auditioned for any role, but this was the part I really wanted – and I was so happy to get it!”

Hanna, who plays Sebastian, said one moment stood out above the rest.

“I get to perform Under the Sea – that’s the best song!” Hanna said.

There will be three performances: a Friday evening show, a Saturday matinee and a Saturday evening finale. The Saturday afternoon session will be a relaxed performance, especially welcoming for younger children or those who benefit from an earlier finish time.

Whether you’re a lifelong Disney fan or discovering the magic for the first time, this colourful production is not to be missed.
