Fall headfirst down the rabbit hole these school holidays as City of Moreton Bay libraries unlock a magical Wonderland-themed program filled with creativity and fun.

To celebrate the 160th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Redcliffe Library and other Council libraries will host a series of activities aimed at curious and curiouser young minds.

Mayor Peter Flannery said he was enthusiastic about the events and opportunities taking place at City of Moreton Bay libraries, particularly during the school holidays.

“Alice in Wonderland is a childhood classic many people grew up reading and loving,” he said. “We’re excited to draw on the imagination and creativity of Lewis Carroll’s iconic novel to inspire young minds to learn and immerse themselves in the library.

“The themed events celebrating 160 years of Alice in Wonderland range from painting your own cupcake plate fit for a Mad Hatter tea party…and taking part in an Alice in Wonderland themed Lego adventure.”

Wonderland Workshops, Lego Challenges & Bunny Cuddles

Young scientists aged eight to 11 are invited to explore Wonderland-themed experiments in the Exploratorium at North Lakes Library on Wednesday, 2 July (10am-11am).

Budding artists aged five to 11 can unleash their inner Mad Hatter at a pottery painting workshop at Deception Bay Library on Friday, 2 July (2pm-3pm) and North Lakes Library on Friday, 11 July (3pm-4pm), decorating their own cupcake plate to take home.

For those who love crafting scenes and stories, a Wonderland-themed diorama workshop will be held between 11am and 12pm at North Lakes Library on Friday, 4 July and Deception Bay Library on Friday, 11 July – perfect for kids aged eight to 11 looking to capture the magic in miniature.

Young engineers can test their skills with a Lego pulley challenge at North Lakes Library on Monday, 7 July (3.30pm-4.30pm), building a contraption to help Alice escape the rabbit hole.

Of course, no Wonderland tale is complete without a rabbit – so hop into Deception Bay Library on Thursday, 3 July (2pm-4pm) or North Lakes Library on Saturday, 12 July (1.30am-3.30pm) for a cuddle and a photo with a real fluffy friend!
