City of Moreton Bay’s Make Music Month is back with a program of free events, live performances, jam sessions, workshops and interactive activities.
Mayor Peter Flannery said, “City of Moreton Bay is full of talented musicians, and we’re delighted to showcase a huge variety of artists across June in our galleries, libraries, and museums.”
Among them is local act JJDuo Queensland, featuring musicians John Colquhoun and Julie Torrance, known for performing timeless classics and contemporary hits.
“We pour our hearts and souls into every performance to create an atmosphere where people can relax, sing along and simply enjoy and feel good,” Julie said.
JJDuo will perform at Deception Bay Library on Wednesday, 10 June from 2pm to 3pm.
“We are excited to be part of Make Music Month in Moreton Bay, where we can bring our passion, energy and connection with audiences to Deception Bay Library,” John said.
Performances and Musical Experiences
Families can attend a kids’ show at Pine Rivers Heritage Museum on Friday, 5 June, from 11am to 11.45am, hosted by performer, vocalist and puppeteer Sharon Kemp.
“Families can expect a warm, interactive musical storytelling experience designed especially for young children,” Sharon said. “The session will weave together live singing, gentle puppetry, movement, and spark the imagination in a way that invites children to participate rather than simply watch.
“The performance has a gentle, whimsical feel inspired by nature, creativity, and old-fashioned storytelling traditions, with plenty of opportunities for children to join in along the way.”
Another highlight is The Bee Gees Reimagined with local acts Amber Worthington and Highs and Lows, taking place at North Lakes Library on Tuesday, 23 June, from 10am to 11.30am.
Mayor Flannery said the acts would both put their own spin on a number of Bee Gees classics.
“This special performance is a wonderful way to celebrate the incredible legacy of the Bee Gees, who grew up right here in Moreton Bay on the sunny shores of Redcliffe,” he said.
Amber said that as a solo performer, she was “excited to create a listening experience where audiences could expect an intimate and soulful take on their favourite hits”.
“The Bee Gees’ music is so timeless and emotive, and it’s been a real joy to reinterpret their songs in a way that feels fresh while still honouring their original spirit,” she said.
These events are free, but bookings are required.
Make Music Month will also feature the People’s Instruments initiative, allowing visitors to try a range of instruments set up in libraries, galleries and museums.
North Lakes Library will host a grand piano, while Strathpine Library will feature a marimba. Musician Bernie Lynch will perform on the marimba at Strathpine Library on Friday, 26 June, from 10.30am to 11.15am.
