Brisbane magician Paul Andrews is bringing an intimate style of live magic to local audiences with a new Close-Up Cabaret Magic Show.
The show takes place at Pine Rivers Showground, with performances scheduled for 5 June and 3 July.
Paul said he wanted to create something that felt personal and genuinely fun.
“You’re not just watching, you’re part of the show,” he said.
“Live magic is so far removed from seeing tricks on your phone or on television. It uses the audience, it happens in the moment and often in their hands. The comment we get most is ‘I never enjoyed magic, until I saw this’, as the audience gets sucked into the ‘moment’.”
An Intimate Magic Experience
Paul is one of only two Australian members of the Inner Magic Circle, an exclusive international society limited to just 300 performers.
“It shows clients that the performer has a certain level of skill or innovation to have gained membership,” he said. “I was awarded the level of Member of the Inner Magic Circle as I was one of the pioneers of creating ‘Table Magic’ for bars and restaurants in London in the nineties.”
The show is aimed at audiences aged over 14, with Paul describing it as designed for adults who still feel like kids.
“The script is slightly risqué; the tricks involve themes that adults relate to, from lying to cheating at cards,” he said. “There are no sparkly props, no rabbits in hats, but plenty of laughs and jaw-dropping moments.”
Tickets are $26.50. Get your tickets here.
