If you’re looking for a fun, free, family day out to kick off the school holidays, Pine Rivers Heritage Museum has just what you’re looking for with their Farmyard Family Fun Day.
The event will be held on Saturday, 27 June at the museum, located within Old Petrie Town.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said Council was joining forces with Old MacDonald’s Travelling Farms to provide families with an opportunity for some good old-fashioned outdoor fun.
“Visitors will be able to meet and interact with a selection of gentle farm animals, including fluffy sheep, snuggly ducks and cute piglets, all chosen for their calm nature and suitability for children,” he said. “The event offers a safe, supervised, petting zoo- style experience.”
Nat from Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farms said that many of the families attending these events are often experiencing interacting with farm animals for the very first time.
“Parents often tell us the experience feels wholesome, calming, and refreshingly simple,” Nat said. “Our animals enjoy the attention and interaction in a controlled environment, with plenty of rest breaks, food and water. They are carefully selected for their calm temperaments and are well-socialised, handled regularly, and monitored closely throughout every event. They are our babies!”
Farm Animals, Music and Hands-On Holiday Activities
Returning for its second year, this popular event offers a lively, welcoming atmosphere with organisers expecting a great turnout once again.
“Alongside the animals, there will be face painting, a sausage sizzle and live music,” Mayor Flannery said. “It’s a great opportunity for children to get up close with farm animals, enjoy live entertainment and spend quality time together.”
Interactive musical performances by the Danslands Trio will take place throughout the day, offering engaging entertainment designed for young children.
The Farmyard Family Fun Day also offers guests the opportunity to learn more about the region’s history by exploring the museum’s unique exhibits, including an 1890s kit home, the Skyring Clock Collection, and displays on World War II.
“Events like this help bring exhibition themes to life in an engaging and accessible way,” Mayor Flannery said. “They encourage families to connect with the stories on display while attracting new visitors to the museum.”
