Gift Mum a Plant for Mother’s Day
As lovely as a bouquet of flowers is, they have a very short life. Similarly, pots of chrysanthemums at the supermarket look pretty for a couple of weeks, but for a gift that gives pleasure for years to come, there are plenty of other plants to consider.
Roses are a beautiful traditional gift – giving your mother or the mother figure in your life a potted rose bush will supply her with pretty blooms for a good few months each year. Roses come in many variations of colour, size, habit and scent, so seek advice from a reputable nursery as to which variety to choose.
Long-Lasting Plant Gift Ideas Mum Will Actually Use
Other living flowering plants to consider are:
- Proteas – flowering now, and make very long-lasting cut flowers
- Camellia – can be pruned to maintain size and shape, with pretty blooms all winter
- Peace lily – hard to kill, lush foliage, tall white flowers, great houseplant
For a very practical Mum, put some vegetable seedlings in a planter box to provide her with fresh produce over winter. The best vegetables to plant now include all your leafy greens, root vegetables and peas.
Still not sure? Many nurseries offer gift vouchers, allowing Mum to choose her own perfect gift.
Happy Mother’s Day!
