Girl Guides Glasshouse Region is putting out a heartfelt call for adult women to step up and lead the next generation. Without more volunteer leaders, many eager local girls could end up on waiting lists.
Girl Guides is about more than earning badges or camping. It’s a place where girls are empowered to explore, lead and thrive while building lifelong friendships in a supportive, all-female environment.
Beth Harding, District Manager for Lawnton and Unit Leader of 1st Lawnton Girl Guides, said more volunteers are urgently needed.
“There are many adult volunteer roles with Girl Guides, but our Guide Leaders are the driving force,” Beth said.
“These amazing women provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing our youth members to experience the world in a safe and inclusive environment.”
Leaders work as a team to run weekly programs that the girls help design. They also organise camps, attend training and take part in events for adult members.
“It’s incredibly rewarding,” Beth said. “You help girls grow in confidence, learn life skills and have fun – and you grow too.”
Ways to Get Involved
Other roles include Unit Helpers, who assist at meetings, and Support Group members (both male and female), who help behind the scenes with tasks such as fundraising, maintenance and admin.
Thirteen-year-old Lucy from Lawnton Girl Guides said she enjoyed the social side of being a Girl Guide: “I like spending time with my friends and learning new skills,” she said.
Girl Guides Glasshouse Region covers Lawnton, Kallangur, Clontarf, Deception Bay, Burpengary, Kawana, Caloundra, Palmwoods and Buderim – so there are lots of opportunities to get involved.
No experience is needed and full training is provided. Volunteers must be over 18 and hold a blue card, police check and first aid qualification (these are arranged when joining). Leaders come from all walks of life – from students and working professionals to parents and retirees.
The main requirement is a passion for helping girls thrive.
