If you like handmade pottery or have ever thought about trying ceramics, the North Pine Potters Open Day is your chance to see how it’s done.
This free, family-friendly event on 27 September is a fun way to learn about the art of pottery and discover the creative opportunities available at this welcoming studio in Old Petrie Town.
Visitors will be able to watch live pottery demonstrations throughout the day, showcasing a variety of techniques such as wheel throwing, eco-dyeing, Japanese nerikomi (layering different coloured clays) and hand-building. You’ll see frogs, spiky animals and other creations come to life from just a lump of clay.
“We’re excited to open our doors and share what happens inside the Pottery Barn,” a club spokesperson said. “Our club’s mission is to build a community of potters who promote fellowship and share ideas. It’s about more than just making pottery – it’s about creativity, connection and growing together.
“North Pine Potters began more than 40 years ago with a handful of passionate potters focused on wood firing. Today, the club has grown to more than 100 members and now includes several kilns and nine pottery wheels. The venue is supported by grants, gallery sales, workshops, and we couldn’t do what we do without our dedicated team of volunteers.”
A full day of activities awaits, including an in-house competition where visitors can vote for their favourite piece in the People’s Choice award. Don’t forget to enter the raffle for a chance to win baskets of handmade pottery, gift vouchers and creative supplies.
