This year, on World Oceans Day, Ocean Life Education is coming to Osprey House to showcase a hands-on aquatic life experience.
Taking place on Sunday, June 8, locals can expect an interactive Ocean Life display alongside a variety of different activities and crafts.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said he was excited about the opportunities this event would bring to locals.
“We’re excited to be working with Ocean Life Education to celebrate World Oceans Day at Osprey House Environmental Centre,” Mayor Flannery said.
“Osprey House puts an important emphasis on environmental education for people to discover more about the City of Moreton Bay’s vast marine and bird life.”
Ocean Conservation and Preservation
The day aims to promote and protect our oceans, and Ocean Life Education hopes to teach visitors about aquatic life, letting them look up close at touch tanks, shark jaws, shells and other displays.
“On World Earth Day, you will be able to look at a bamboo shark up close, find out what a sea star feels like and create ocean-themed arts and crafts,” Mayor Flannery said.
“We hope to engage our community members in a fun and impactful way, inspiring our younger generations to take action to protect our natural spaces.
“City of Moreton Bay is committed to protecting our coasts and water catchments to ensure they are used sustainably and environmental values are protected and enhanced.
“We want to lead the way through impactful initiatives, which make a real difference for our community and environment.”
Throughout the day, the Osprey House volunteers will be there to assist with fun ocean-themed crafts and take visitors on guided walks among the mangroves.
“Osprey House is supported by a group of trained and enthusiastic volunteers who dedicate their time to educate others about the environment,” Mayor Flannery said.
“You can support them on World Earth Day by purchasing some delicious goodies from the sausage sizzle and bake sale. We are proud to have volunteers and a facility of this quality in City of Moreton Bay.”
