With school holidays fast approaching, you might be wondering how to keep your family entertained during the break.

Thankfully, City of Moreton Bay will continue to run its Healthy and Active Moreton initiative, with extra classes for children during the school holidays (30 June to 11 July).

Kellie Morgan, the owner of Energetic Music, a local music and dance business, runs the Fun Sized Hip Hop classes. She said she had been involved with Moreton Bay’s Healthy and Active initiative for almost 10 years.

“Moreton Council approached me as I was teaching at PCYC Pine Rivers at the time,” Kellie said.

“Fun Size Hip Hop has always had a great following, and I think it’s because even though the steps are guided. I always have the saying ‘you do you’, which gives the kids a little more freedom to add their personal style and flavour to the program.

“It’s amazing to see how these classes can get the kids active in a fun environment. Family members and siblings love to join in too, so it’s very inclusive.

“Many grown-ups I meet at the Healthy and Active classes also attend my adult classes as a direct result of the Fun Size Hip Hop session.”

A Community-Focused Program for All Ages

Most of the Healthy and Active Moreton classes are an hour long, are targeted at all ages, and are held at various locations in the region throughout the year. Other programs include drumming, learning to ride a bike, group fitness and self-defence.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the program helped the community connect as well as get active and have fun.

“It’s fantastic to see families coming together,” he said. “We’re proud to support local initiatives like Fun Size Hip Hop, which not only gets kids active but also brings families and communities together in a really special way.

“Programs like this highlight the vibrancy and community spirit that make City of Moreton Bay such a great place to live.

“Healthy and Active Moreton is more than just fitness, it’s about building connections, boosting wellbeing, and celebrating community.” You can find out more via www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au
