School holidays are upon us once more!

Entertaining the kids can be one of the hardest parts of what feels like the longest days of the year. But before you start running for the hills, here are a few ideas to help keep the kids (big and small) busy during their long break.

North Lakes

Lake Eden is home to a variety of wild birdlife (swans, ducks, etc) along with turtles, eels, fish and many water dragons. Walk around the lake and take it all in, stop off at one of the many playgrounds scattered around the lake, enjoy a picnic beneath the shade of a tree or take a short stroll to many nearby cafes and shops.

If the hot days are getting to you and there’s no swimming pool in your backyard, why not take the kids for a dip in the pool and cool off at the North Lakes Aquatic Centre

Mango Hill

With views of a man-made lake that gives Capestone Lake Playground its name, there is plenty to see and do here. Set the kids a challenge to see who can go the fastest on the dual flying fox and let them swing away the day or climb to their heart’s content. But if you really want to wear them out, you can’t go past the Ninja Warrior-inspired obstacle course!

Petrie

The Mill is the perfect spot to cool down on a warm day these school holidays. The space features two playgrounds for younger and older children, a flying fox, a splash pad with a water bucket, extensive green space with a cricket pitch and plenty of shady spots to sit and enjoy a picnic lunch.

You’ll find the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum in Old Petrie Town. The museum explores the early years of the area and you’ll get to experience an 1890s school classroom and glimpse life before electricity in an original farm workers cottage. Check out the rest of Old Petrie Town while you’re there!

Strathpine

Pine Rivers Park is a large outdoor space with playgrounds, bike paths and picnic areas. Plus you can’t go past the flying fox, pedal-powered train and children’s maze. The park often hosts special events or festivals that are great for families.

Just a hop, skip and a jump away, you’ll also find Flip Out Strathpine. Plenty of jumping fun with trampolines galore, foam pits and running walls, plus a café to keep those hungry munchkins fed!

Griffin

Osprey House is the place to discover Moreton Bay’s vast bird and marine life. Explore the grounds and use the viewing platforms and bird hide to see wildlife in action. You can even watch the resident ospreys and see their nest, as there is a specifically designed raptor pole and monitoring system in place.

Lawnton

Let the kids swim to their heart’s content at the Lawnton Aquatic Centre. Facilities include a 50m lap swimming pool, 25m indoor swimming pool, toddler splash pool and play area. As an added bonus, during the Christmas school holidays, they run a program where students can swim every day for a week to help progress and fast-track their skills.

These activities will hopefully help keep your kids entertained and engaged these school holidays! Be sure to check availability and book in advance where necessary.
