North Lakes musical comedian EJ Mann is revving up to participate in the 2025 Variety Postie Bike Dash.

The six-day Dash will see participants riding postie bikes across rural New South Wales, raising funds for children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage, or living with a disability.

To kick things off, EJ is hosting Posties and Punchlines at Thirsty Chiefs Brewing Co this month, an event featuring stand-up comedy, a motorcycle show ‘n shine, raffles and more, with 100% of funds going to Variety – The Children’s Charity.

“I love the postie bike and think it’s a bit of an Aussie icon, and when I saw that I could ride it for a good cause, I was all in,” EJ said.

“In a previous life, I was a librarian and working with disadvantaged kids was something we did every day as part of my job. Some of these children were in foster care, others had special needs or illnesses and you really would build up a rapport with them and want the best for them. And so does Variety – that’s why I’m trying to fundraise as much as I can for this amazing cause.”

The journey runs from 2–7 November and covers a route through Forster/Nabiac, Beechwood, Kempsey, Dorrigo, Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Heads, Smithtown and Port Macquarie.

Bikes, Laughs, and Local Support

According to EJ, every dollar spent preparing for the ride, including her Honda CT110 postie bike, came from her own funds.

“I bought the bike second-hand last year with a variety of questionable mods and it ran terribly,” she said. “I’ve re-fitted most of the original parts, tuned it up and have been riding it off-road whenever I get the chance up at Mt Mee.”

Fellow postie bike owners are invited to bring them to Posties and Punchlines for the show ‘n shine, with categories including Best Original, Best Custom and Best Rust Bucket.

“We’ve got a food truck on site, and I’ve handpicked a lineup of awesome and diverse SEQ comedians,” EJ said.

Acts include headliner Richie Thomas, rising star Georgina Humphries, RAW Comedy finalists Jamieson Gilders and Daniel Bruschweiller, and MC Stuart Foreman, who recently premiered his second comedy hour in Brisbane.

Guests can win family experience vouchers, BBQ goodies from Crafted Taste Brewing Supplies, a night out at Good Chat Comedy Club and more.

“I’m excited to see how the Moreton Bay community is banding together to support such an amazing cause – and I think the night is going to be so much fun!” EJ said.
