Act 1 Theatre will usher in the new year with a gripping production that is sure to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
The company will present Death’s Desire, a dark psychological thriller by Robert Scott, at the Pine Shire Hall in Strathpine from 6 to 21 February.
Director Peter Murray said the tagline ‘Marriage can be murder’ was very appropriate for the play, but that there were also “many other levels to the story”.
“Intriguing is the word I would use to describe this play,” Peter said. “I love directing, and the script had me in from the first scene.”
Death’s Desire features Lawrence, a therapist whose life begins to unravel in sessions with a new client. The client, known as The Man, makes chilling confessions: multiple marriages under false identities, and murder. As the sessions continue, the situation grows more sinister when The Man reveals something about Lawrence’s fiancée.
“Our audiences will see many different sides to the main character’s life,” Peter said. “He was born into a tragic family, which presented nothing but violence from his father from the day he was born, and a subservient mother. Because of his early days, he has created a very different life for himself. I am sure there are times you might even feel sorry for him, but in the main, he is just a killer.”
Behind the Production and Booking Details
Peter first directed the play seven years ago and said it was very well received at that time. This new production features a different cast, with only one actor returning from the original run.
“I loved it so much I decided to direct it again,” he said.
“There are some comedic parts, emotional parts, (and) mental issues components, which combine to have our audiences really thinking about life and how events can shape a person.”
Terry Fuller, who plays The Man, said he was excited by the challenge of the multifaceted character he plays.
“The cast and crew are working hard to bring you a show that will…well, I’d love to tell you more, but to leave you guessing about this show is better,” Terry said. “So, hold tight – you’re in for a ride that you’ll not expect.”
Peter said the cast was some of the best he had ever worked with.
“They are working well together as a team to create their characters and bring to life a complicated story that has many aspects to it,” he said.
“Please come along and see for yourselves as it unfolds.”
