Christmas shoppers looking for something special can head to Dayboro this month, when The Churn Room brings together local artisans and guest makers for its two-day Artisan Market Weekend.
Held in the historic Old Dayboro Butter Factory, the market will feature handmade jewellery, clothing, accessories, homewares, decor, art, gifts and other creations, with visitors able to meet the makers.
Managing Artisan Karoline Cumming said connecting makers with visitors was central to the event.
“Our driving need is to provide opportunities for makers, artists and the wider community to connect and engage with each other,” Karoline said. “Connection is at the heart of everything we do.
“Our own artisans have the chance to connect with each other, as well as other makers, and visitors have the chance to connect with the maker they’re purchasing from. It’s a truly in-person experience that is lacking when we purchase online or from a big-box retailer.”
Unique Handmade Gifts and Historic Venue Experience
The Churn Room is home to an Artisan Store featuring handmade products from a range of makers, as well as two gallery spaces, rotating exhibitions and a workshop area where visitors can learn creative skills.
Managing Artisan Ulrike Foerster said the event gave visitors time to browse for unique gifts.
“What we love most is the opportunity to introduce our visitors to even more makers than those represented day-to-day in our Artisan Store,” Ulrike said. “Our guest makers are invited to join us because they have caught our eye, whether on social media, in person at other market events or through applications via our website.
“They are passionate about what they create, their products are truly handmade, and they take pride in the quality and finish of their products. We believe this is what sets us apart from other market events, particularly around Christmas.”
During the weekend, The Churn Room’s Little Room gallery will be transformed into a Christmas Room, while the Mezzanine Gallery will be filled with tables displaying the work of participating makers.
The Artisan Market Weekend is held twice a year, with the November event timed for the lead-up to Christmas. It also offers an opportunity to make a day of visiting Dayboro, with its cafés, eateries and independent businesses along the main street.
