Women across the region are invited to get hands-on with their vehicles as Girls Day Out 4WD Edition hosts a full-day mechanical workshop focused on practical maintenance skills.

The North Brisbane Mechanical Day will be held on Sunday, 29 March in North Lakes and is designed to give women the confidence and knowledge to understand their car inside and out.

Founder/owner Cassandra Carson said Girls Day Out 4WD Edition began in 2020 with a focus on helping beginners learn everything they need to get started confidently. Over time, the initiative has grown to include a range of workshops, from introductory sessions through to mechanical and advanced training days.

“When I was learning, I found it difficult to get clear answers, and I often felt hesitant to ask questions for fear of looking inexperienced or making mistakes,” Cassandra said. “That experience inspired me to create a platform where information is accessible, supportive and judgment-free – a space where women can learn, ask questions, and build skills at any stage of their journey.

“Learning these skills is a big confidence boost. There is something about being trackside, and if something goes wrong with yourself or someone else, rather than panicking, you go into ‘fix it’ mode, or if something is difficult, once you overcome it, there is a sense of pride of ‘wow, I can do this’.”

Master Your Machine: What to Expect at the North Lakes Workshop

The full-day workshop covers a wide range of topics, including basic vehicle servicing, GVM and GCM for towing, suspension components, and tyre maintenance. Participants will learn how to read tyre sizing, change a tyre, and carry out puncture repairs. The workshop caters to all vehicle types and is led by a qualified 4WD trainer and mechanic, alongside Cassandra, who brings her experience as a service advisor and parts interpreter.

“With both of our backgrounds, we teach everything about a car, even giving the ladies a chance to put the car on the hoist to look underneath it, things they may not have seen before or had the time to look at,” she said. “With my extensive dealership experience, I debunk some dealership myths and help guide the ladies with anything mechanical they may need.

“These workshops are designed for all experience levels, with no prior mechanical knowledge required, and focus on real-world skills that improve safety, confidence and preparedness. More than just education, they foster connection, mentorship and community, encouraging women to support one another, ask questions without judgment, and continue building their skills long after the event ends.”

Tickets start at $75, which includes the workshop, lunch, workbook and a goodie bag. Book your spots here.
