Harmony Week (16–22 March) is a time to celebrate what makes the City of Moreton Bay such a vibrant and welcoming place to live.

Residents represent more than 180 nationalities and speak over 150 different languages. With one in five Moreton Bay residents born overseas, cultural diversity is a significant part of everyday life across the region.

Harmony Week offers an opportunity to recognise and celebrate this multicultural identity. The week promotes inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging.

One City, Many Cultures: Free Creative Workshops and Local Events

Locally, this message comes to life through One City, Many Cultures, a series of free creative workshops taking place this month at locations including Strathpine, North Lakes and Burpengary, inviting residents to experience global traditions through art, music and making.

The workshops offer hands-on creative activities inspired by traditions from around the world. Led by professional artists drawing on their own lived experiences, participants explore cultural diversity through artistic expression.

One of the artists facilitating the workshops is Indian-Australian musician Menaka, who said she brings her cultural heritage to life through music and storytelling.

“Family events like One City, Many Cultures are about coming together through joy, curiosity and shared experience, where music becomes a common language for all ages,” Menaka said.

“As a contemporary Indian-Australian fusion songwriter, performer, producer and presenter, I’m proud to be part of a diverse team sharing the vibrant musical traditions of India through a fun, hands-on workshop that invites families to explore, connect and belong.”

Persian musician and artist Naz Masoudi will also lead a workshop celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year, on 21 March.

“It’s very important for me and my community to share our beautiful customs and culture on this day and be immersed in joy, traditions, music and dance, crafts and activities,” Naz said.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the workshops reflected the spirit of Harmony Week.

“City of Moreton Bay is proud to be hosting One City, Many Cultures, which includes a series of family events that embrace and celebrate our culturally diverse community,” Mayor Flannery said.
