Grab the leash and get those tails wagging for the final time with the RSPCA’s last-ever Million Paws Walk at Pine Rivers Park later this month.
The RSPCA has decided that after 30 years of supporters fighting animal cruelty through the charity walk, this year will be the final walk as a national fundraising event.
RSPCA Queensland spokesperson Emma Lagoon said the decision was made with great difficulty but was due to cost-of-living pressures and a dramatically changed fundraising landscape since the pandemic.
“All of us at the RSPCA would like to thank our superhumans and superpooches that have pounded the pavement with us over the last three decades, as well as the thousands of staff and volunteers that have made our event possible year in and out,” Ms Lagoon said. “Thanks ‘a million’ for being a part of our wonderful life-changing history! The RSPCA couldn’t achieve what we do each and every day without your compassion, generosity and fun spirit.”
With the help of up to 1.6 million paws – that’s 400,000 super pooches – and more than 750,000 superhumans, RSPCA’s iconic Million Paws Walk has raised $17 million for animals in need over its 30-year history.
In those 30 years, the event has brought joy and much-needed funding to vital RSPCA services to care for tens of thousands of animals every year.
“The RSPCA feels it best to channel resources directly to support the animals in our care and ensure every dollar donated to our cause supports the critical services and care that have become increasingly costly to provide,” Ms Lagoon said.
Celebrate the Final Walk with Community, Canines, and a Casual Stroll
The RSPCA encourages everyone to step up as a superhero for animals in need and get involved for the final ‘walkies’, as they bid farewell to their iconic event.
Dakabin Animal Care Manager Dijanna Tramontin said she encouraged everyone to make this last lap a memorable one for our community.
“This beloved event has been a staple in the Moreton Bay community for over a decade, bringing together animal lovers to support vital RSPCA services,” Ms Tramontin said. “Enjoy a day filled with family fun activities, market stalls and food trucks, all supporting local businesses and the RSPCA.”
Registration and gates open at 8am, with the main event – a casual 1.7km walk around the park with all of our four-legged ‘supawters’ – commencing at 10am. There will be doggy competitions and prizes to be won.
Keep up to date with the event by following RSPCA Dakabin on Facebook.
