Step through the looking glass into a world where the ‘curious and curiouser’ await at this month’s Forgotten Fairytales Market.

The indoor market, hosted by Cryptic Creations Show, will take place at the Pine Rivers Showground on 10 and 11 May.

Founder and event coordinator of Cryptic Creations Show, Paris, said fairytales were the perfect playground to embrace the unusual.

“The Forgotten Fairytales market allows us to explore the darker and eerie elements of these classic stories that often get lost,” Paris said. “It’s the perfect theme for our unique vendors, who are all about the unexpected!”

The market will showcase small businesses specialising in alternative and handcrafted goods.

“Every small business brings something special to the table and it’s the diversity and creativity of our vendors that make this market truly stand out,” Paris said.

“From spooky oddities and gorgeous (sustainably sourced) entomology artwork to alternative jewellery and illustrations by local artists, there’s something for everyone who is intrigued by the unusual.

Celebrating the Eerie, Unusual, and Imaginative

“What I love most about running these events is being able to curate a space where people can come together to support alternative small businesses while enjoying a positive and inclusive atmosphere. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the excitement people have for the talent and dedication of our vendors. As an alternative soul myself and a strong advocate for supporting small businesses, it’s truly fulfilling to watch these markets create meaningful connections and celebrate the unusual.”

In addition to the one-of-a-kind goods, attendees can also participate in an Oddity Jar workshop hosted by Midnight Ritual and enjoy the treats from on-site food trucks.

While the market is open to everyone, Paris recommended that parents and carers check out the offerings beforehand to ensure it’s the right fit for their little ones.

“A number of our vendors sell sustainably sourced preserved animal specimens used in artwork,” she said. “There can also be some pieces that feature gory or eerie themes.”

For those looking to immerse themselves fully in the fairytale theme, attendees are encouraged to dress up.

Paris said she was very excited to see all sorts of creative takes on classic fairy tales or twisted versions of their favourite characters.

“Personally, I’d love to see some dark Alice in Wonderland cosplays,” she said.
