Families are in for a treat these school holidays, with laughter, music and puppet-powered fun on the agenda.
The Larrikin Puppets will bring their high-energy children’s show to North Lakes Sports Club on 22 September.
Famous for their bright, fuzzy characters and interactive performances, The Larrikin Puppets – founded by performers Brett Hansen and his wife Elissa Jenkins – have been delighting kids across Australia for more than a decade with their colourful mix of songs, storytelling and comedy.
“Puppetry has always brought me joy,” Brett said. “I started from scratch, building up the business one puppet show at a time.
“Since then, Larrikin Puppets have grown. We live here in the Moreton Bay region, so performing locally always means a lot to us. We always like to include clever jokes and cheeky moments that the grown-ups enjoy too.”
You can expect to see fan favourites like Freerange the Chicken, with his big clucky energy and unpredictable antics, alongside Troggg, the lovable blue monster, and his comedy partner, little sister Marina. You might even recognise these puppets from their TV appearance on Shake Takes on Channel 10.
After each show, Troggg and Marina come out to meet the kids for high-fives and photos – a much-loved highlight for young audiences.
Often compared to The Muppets and Sesame Street, The Larrikin Puppets embrace the same energetic, Muppet-style puppetry. Brett and Elissa were even trained by some of Jim Henson’s puppeteers in the United States.
“Our mentors encouraged us to go out into our own communities and share that joy and creativity with others,” Brett said.
“The interactive performances encourage kids to sing along, dance in their seats and learn important messages about friendship, creativity and kindness.
“We learnt a wide range of skills that really shaped how we perform today.”
