Good food has a way of bringing people together, and that’s exactly what Taste the Bay North Lakes is all about.
The free, family-friendly event, to be held at Lake Eden on 5 September, will feature local food producers, flavours and community activities from across the City of Moreton Bay.
Rather than a large-scale food festival, Taste the Bay has been designed as a community gathering where visitors can meet the people behind the local produce.
At the centre of the event is the Taste the Bay Kitchen, where local food personality Candice Kiss will showcase some of Moreton Bay’s finest ingredients through a series of cooking demonstrations and dishes.
“Taste of the Bay is a great opportunity to get out in the community, meet up with friends and sample a selection of good food, local brewers and celebrate our Moreton Bay producers,” Candice said.
If Candice looks familiar, you may have seen her at one of her venues, Annie Lane Café on Bribie Island, Gather & Feast Café in Caboolture or Ruby Tuesday Café in Burpengary East.
“I’m really excited to be working alongside so many amazing farmers and small producers, which I call my second family,” she said. “It’s a chance for me to give back, have a chat and create connections.”
Local Talent and Family Fun Take Centre Stage
Joining Candice will be local barbecue expert Lachlan from McAdventures, who will share his passion for charcoal cooking through live demonstrations, using the same products featured in Candice’s dishes.
Taste the Bay will also showcase the next generation of local talent, including 11-year-old baker Tyra of Tyra’s Treats, who will be selling her homemade baked goods. The youngster was also recognised with the Premier’s Young Achiever Award at this year’s Pumicestone Business Awards.
“I feel very honoured and grateful for being recognised and knowing that people love what I do,” she said of her achievements so far. “I’m really looking forward to being a part of the Taste the Bay North Lakes and meeting new people to share my product with.”
Spending time in the kitchen has been a big part of Tyra’s life for many years, with her dad and Brooki Bakehouse being her biggest inspirations.
“I want to show people that even at a young age, you can achieve your goal no matter what,” Tyra said.
Alongside food stalls, visitors to Taste the Bay can enjoy a picnic-style atmosphere with live music, roving entertainment, face painting, and colouring-in activities.
