Celebrate culture for one night with the biggest Garba set to hit the northside this month.
Parth Oza is coming to Pine Rivers Park on Saturday, 22 August, taking the stage at an open-air cultural dancing experience.
Event organiser, Supal Shah, said that audiences could expect live music, devotion and high-energy celebration.
“Dr Parth Oza, a globally acclaimed playback singer, will be performing live, creating a massive festival atmosphere with a buzzing dance floor where families, friends, and the broader community can come together to dance the night away,” Supal said.
“Dr Parth Oza is widely recognised as the ‘Prince of Traditional Garba’ and has been performing massive concerts worldwide for many years.”
At the heart of the event is the celebration of Garba, a traditional folk dance originating from the Gujarat region of India.
“(The dance is) typically performed during the multi-night festival of Navratri,” Supal said. “Dancers move rhythmically in concentric circles, symbolising the cyclical nature of time and life. It is an incredibly inclusive, joyful celebration of unity and rhythm.
“For locals looking to learn more about our multicultural community, it offers a true window into authentic Indian heritage that goes well beyond your regular ‘curry feast’. It’s an immersive, sensory dive into live folk music, shared community spirit, and centuries-old traditions.”
Dress to Impress in Colourful Indian Attire
Alongside live performances, Indian street food and Garba, there is also a ‘dress to impress’ aspect of the event.
“Garba is as much a visual spectacle as it is a musical one!” Supal said. “Dancers traditionally dress in highly vibrant, colourful Indian attire.
“Women wear Chaniya Cholis – gorgeously flared, heavily embroidered skirts adorned with mirror work – while men wear traditional Kediyus or elegant Kurtas. The ‘dress to impress’ element brings a sea of dazzling colours, textures, and movement to Pine Rivers Park, turning the evening into a living art gallery.
“While traditional wear is highly encouraged for those wanting to dance, for a curious one to watch, any full body covering attire is good. Think of it like going to a place of worship.”
