“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

The Anywhere Festival Moreton Bay brings many shows, but one has a delightful bite!

Among the talented and immersive music, art and drama of the Anywhere Festival, running from 8 to 25 May, is a gem of a show rising from the deep waters of Amity Point. Brought to you by Act React, Jaws: For Kids introduces audiences of all ages to Bruce the Shark to ponder the question – are sharks ‘bad’ or simply misunderstood?

Co-creator at Act React, Ellie Hardisty, said Act React was known for their hilarious comic retellings of classic epic movies – Die Hard, Titanic and Speed – and Jaws definitely fits into that category.

“This is our first show aimed at children,” Ellie said. “We think Jaws is such an iconic classic, but kids watching it today think it’s funny (I guess the special effects haven’t aged well).

“We loved the challenge of taking such a terrifying film and transforming it into a children’s pantomime.

“It’s an action-packed interactive show with puppets, bubbles, chase sequences, music and a Big Boat.”

Festival Fun for the Whole Family

In the 45-minute show, two friends played by Ellie Hardisty and Natalie Bochenski tell the story of Jaws, including lots of learning about sharks along the way.

Ellie added that while it was written with four to eight-year-olds in mind, it’s a show for the whole family.

“There are plenty of jokes for the grown-ups too!” Ellie said.

“We want our audiences to come out with big smiles, fond memories and maybe a new perspective about sharks.

“And the adults previously traumatised from watching Jaws will be completely healed! (Healing not 100% guaranteed).”

Tickets are $10 per person. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to anywhere.is/series/jaws-for-kids/
