Best Dog Walks: North Lakes and Beyond

North Lakes and its surrounding suburbs are home to some of the most scenic and dog-friendly walking tracks, offering the perfect opportunity for you and your furry companion to enjoy the great outdoors together.  

Here are 3 Top Picks for Some Great Local Dog-Walking Adventures

1. North Lakes Environmental Reserve, North Lakes 

North Lakes Environmental Reserve offers a tranquil escape for your daily walk. With well-maintained trails winding through this protected ecosystem, it’s a fantastic spot for dog owners looking to enjoy a stroll. There are playgrounds, undercover seating and BBQ points nearby too. 

Saltwater Creek weaves through the middle of the park so you’ll find lots of wildlife as you explore.  

The park features shaded pathways, birdwatching opportunities and plenty of places to stop and enjoy nature.  

Where: Ideal starting points are Lacebark Street or Whitebeech Court, North Lakes.  

2. Cottonwood Walk and Heritage Trail, Deception Bay 

Located just a short drive from North Lakes, this waterfront trail is perfect for leisurely dog walks. Stretching along Deception Bay Esplanade, the Cottonwood Walk boasts breathtaking coastal views and refreshing sea breezes, plus there is a wealth of cultural heritage to discover as it forms part of the Deception Bay Heritage Trail – all while you and your pooch get your steps in.  

With wide, flat paths and several seating areas, this trail is ideal for dogs of all ages and energy levels and you’ll find plenty of wildlife to admire along the way.  

Where: Begin at Boama Park, Esplanade South, Deception Bay and head north along the waterfront then finish with a splash at the dog beach.  

3. Sweeney Reserve to Mungarra Reserve, Petrie

Take the walking and cycling track between Mungarra Reserve and Sweeney Reserve along the North Pine River. There are opportunities to enjoy the dog parks to burn off excess energy, plus there are ample facilities including basketball courts, BBQ points, seating and fitness stations, which are perfect if you bring the family along.  

The paths are flat and easy to navigate, making them suitable for all fitness levels. You might even be lucky enough to see a koala! 

Where: Explore from Wyllie Park carpark at Sweeney Reserve to Affleck Avenue at Mungarra Reserve in Petrie.  

With these routes, you and your dog can enjoy fresh air and exercise while discovering the stunning natural beauty of the Moreton Bay Region.
