Imagine transforming your personal connections into a vibrant, growing piece of artwork.

This month’s Threads of Connection event offers exactly that – a creative, communal space to celebrate the bonds that tie us to people, places and nature.

Local artist Shan Michaels will lead the interactive experience as part of The Wonder Wagon, City of Moreton Bay’s mobile art experience. Taking place on 30 March as part of the Music in the Park event at Deception Bay, participants will have the opportunity to be involved in an evolving fabric masterpiece.

“My artwork, Threads of Connection: everything, everyone, everywhere, is a colourful, hands-on textile piece that’s all about celebrating how we’re connected,” Shan said. “You can dive into the textures, wrap yourself and your loved ones in the giant threads and snap a fun selfie to become ‘one’ with the artwork!

“At Music in the Park, you can grab a paint pen and decorate a fabric thread – write or draw something about who, what or where makes you feel connected – and add it to one of the big crochet chains. It’s heartwarming to see everyone’s contributions coming together, turning invisible bonds into something you can see and feel. It’s a beautiful reminder of what brings us all together!”

How to Join the Fun

How to take part in Threads of Connection:

  • Create your connection: Use the materials provided to decorate fabric strips with drawings or words that capture your sense of connection.
  • Weave your story: Tie or weave your fabric pieces into the sculpture to contribute to this growing community creation.
  • Capture the moment: Snap a photo with friends wrapped in the sculpture’s vibrant threads to capture the experience and make a lasting memory.

The initiative aims to showcase Shan Michaels’ creativity and highlight the strength and diversity of the local area. It’s a celebration of unity, creativity and shared experiences in our community.

Don’t miss the chance to be part of this unique art event, which transforms invisible bonds into a growing piece of art. Participation is free.
