Local actor Dylan Stumer has made his television debut in the Stan original series Good Cop/Bad Cop.
The show, filmed on the Gold Coast, follows sibling detectives Lou (Leighton Meester) and Henry (Luke Cook) in a small Pacific Northwest police force.
Dylan, who plays Officer Gukasov in the series, said he read about the show online and his agent secured him an audition.
“When I read my character breakdown for the role of Officer Gukasov, I loved it and I really connected with the script, so I filmed my tape that evening,” Dylan said.
“A few weeks later, I got the call from my agent. Before I answered the call, I thought maybe we’ve booked something and we had! I couldn’t stop smiling, it felt like it was a movie itself. I had worked for so many years to achieve this and it finally happened: we got that YES!”
Training, Preparation, and Big-Screen Dreams
Dylan has spent over eight years honing his craft in television, films and commercials. To prepare for his role in Good Cop/Bad Cop, he said he trained with multiple coaches and worked on perfecting a US dialect.
“It’s crucial to stay sharp and ready for any role that might come your way,” he said. “You never know when an opportunity will present itself, so I always make sure my skills are up to scratch and I’m prepared to take on whatever comes next.”
While Dylan has played supporting and lead roles in several projects, including an upcoming Australian feature film and the Screen Queensland-nominated short film The Last Day, he said the scale of Good Cop/Bad Cop was a big adjustment.
“US projects tend to be on a much larger scale with bigger sets and bigger budgets – but what really stood out was that the core of it still felt the same,” he said. “The sense of heart and that ‘industry family’ vibe, which I’ve experienced on every project I’ve worked on, was still there. From my fitting to being on set, it didn’t really feel like a challenge; I was just ready to dive in and play.”
Dylan said he also enjoyed working closely with Luke Cook.
“With him being Australian, I’ve always looked up to him,” he said. “He started in the Australian market and has achieved so much success globally, which really reminds me to keep going and chase that dream.”
Good Cop/Bad Cop is now on Stan.
