Spooky and Safe: Prepare Your Kids for Halloween

The spooky season has arrived, and while Halloween is all about costumes, lollies and fun, it’s also important to make sure children stay safe while celebrating. With a little preparation, you can enjoy a magical night.

Be Seen After Dark

Halloween often means children are out and about in the evening. Give your little ghosts and ghouls torches, glow sticks or put reflective tape on costumes or treat bags. It adds to the fun while making them visible.

Road Safety

Excited children can forget road rules. Remind them to stick to pavements, use crossings and look both ways before stepping into the road. Plan your route to take in well-lit streets.

Stick Together

Younger children should go trick-or-treating with an adult. For older kids heading out with friends, set boundaries about where they can go and when they should be home.

Practical Costumes

Costumes should be fun but safe. Avoid long, trailing hems and make sure masks or accessories don’t block vision. Check labels for flame-resistant materials, as there will be candles around.

Stranger Danger

Remind kids not to enter unfamiliar houses or cars and only visit homes with decorations or outside lights on.

Taking these steps will help make Halloween a night to remember for all the right reasons.

A Frightful Halloween Highlight in North Lakes

Cursed on Conway is a spooktacular Halloween walkthrough hosted by Sam and Brendan Evans and their daughters, Scarlett and Harper.

“We absolutely love Halloween and thoroughly enjoy being able to share the spooks with our neighbours and seeing the smiles (and hearing the screams) of our trick-or-treaters!” Sam said

Cursed on Conway features chilling scenes such as Carnevil and the Victorian Manor, carefully curated to thrill older children (8+) and adults, though all ages are welcome. Parents can preview the haunt to see if it’s suitable for their children.

“All four of us spend months planning, designing, building and setting up our haunt,” Sam said. “We invest a lot of time and money into making it come to life but it is worth it when we see the end result and are able to share the scares with others.”
