Greg Potent, also known as the Downunder Pez Hunter, has turned his passion for Pez candy dispensers into a worldwide success.

The Kallangur-based collector has built a global following of Pez enthusiasts with his podcast, Get Dispensed the Pez Podcast, downloaded more than 1800 times across 29 countries.

A collector for more than 15 years, Greg said the idea for his podcast came about when another Pez-focused show finished during the COVID pandemic.

“Over my time, I have met a lot of people in the Pez world, so doing a podcast seemed the next step to take,” he said.

“Pez is a sweet hit of childhood for many – fun, colourful and full of memories. There are thousands of dispensers out there, from vintage classics to pop culture icons, making Pez one of the most collectable toys on the planet.”

Get Dispensed the Pez Podcast features interviews with collectors, industry experts and even celebrities, such as TV personality and fellow collector Rove McManus.

“When I first was working on the podcast, I had a list of dream guests, which Rove was top of the list,” Greg said. “So, I reached out to his production company with no luck, but I am persistent. I sent a request to his manager, and to my surprise, got a reply within 15 minutes that the manager and Rove loved the idea and will come on.

“The episode was the longest one I have done. We go over his career, from school, how he started on TV, to being a voice in Finding Nemo. And his collection, of course. He has some very special ones I have only read about. He showed me his Logies and those special Pez. It was an unforgettable day.”

Local Recognition and Global Ambitions

Greg’s own collection of Pez was recently showcased at the Pine Rivers Museum.

“I was very honoured to be part of the Local Keepers display in 2024, and even more so when the Mayor said that the Pez was his favourite part of the exhibition,” he said.

Greg collaborated with Redcliffe-based Aboriginal artist Michael Connelly to create a one-of-a-kind Pez dispenser representing Moreton Bay.

“This was the highlight for me and has been featured around the world,” he said.

Upcoming guests on Get Dispensed the Pez Podcast include representatives from Pez International, Vinnie Fiorello from the band Less Than Jake, and pop culture expert Brian Heiler.

Looking to the future, Greg said he planned to interview someone from every continent, including Antarctica, and then every country.

“As long as Pez are out there, stories are there to be heard,” he said.
