Deputy Mayor of City of Moreton Bay, Jodie Shipway, is stepping outside her comfort zone for a charitable cause.

As one of the 2024 Unsung Heroes Singing Heroes for The Carer’s Foundation Australia, Jodie is raising funds for unpaid carers with a high tea event at the North Lakes Hotel this month.

The Carers Foundation Australia aims to raise $5 million in three years to establish Australia’s first wellbeing and education centre for unpaid carers.

Jodie’s Unsung Heroes fundraising page says she decided to help after attending the foundation’s Christmas lunch last year.

“Something just hit a nerve for me at that lunch and I immediately wanted to ‘do more’ and help the foundation meet their goal of providing a wellness facility for carers,” Jodie said.

“Listening to the carers speak and hearing of their personal experiences really does hit home and makes you realise that any of us could become a carer at any time.”

The high tea on 18 August includes bubbles on arrival, tea and coffee, scones, sweet and savoury treats and sandwiches. Attendees will also enjoy a fashion show and raffle.

The 2024 Unsung Heroes will take to the stage at the Fortitude Music Hall on 5 October for a live sing-off finale.

“I’m more than happy to get outside of my comfort zone and be one of the Unsung Heroes for 2024; it’s the least I can do when I know how tough some of our carers are doing it daily,” Jodie said.

Tickets to the high tea are $60pp or $550 for a table of 10. You can get your High Tea ticket here.
