Wanderers Brisbane has announced the return of its highly anticipated event, Cruise for the Blues, promising a day of horsepower-fuelled fun, all in support of a vital cause.

The local social group, dedicated to promoting positive mental health through outdoor adventures, have scheduled the event for 27 October at Lakeside Park in Kurwongbah, with proceeds going to Beyond Blue.

Jesse Hiddins, Founder of Wanderers Brisbane, said the second annual Cruise for the Blues would be even bigger and better than last year.

“Cruise for the Blues is going to be a huge day, jam-packed with rolling dirt drags, flex ramp, trade stores, cruise sessions, skid pans and of course, the show and shine competition,” Jesse said.

“We hope to see families come out and enjoy the day and help us raise awareness for suicide prevention and help us raise funds for Beyond Blue.”

Wanderers Brisbane began when Jesse noticed a growing community eager to share adventures and day trips.

“The group is all-inclusive, family-oriented and meant for people to get together and share tips, tricks and advice on enjoying time in the outdoors, whilst also creating a safe and supportive environment for people to reach out and discuss life,” he said.

“We host regular men’s circles and on top of this, raise awareness for people suffering from mental health challenges.”

Men’s circles, held at SANDBAG in Sandgate, offer a safe, welcoming space for anyone needing to chat and “a brew with the crew”. The circles are open to anyone who could benefit from connecting with others.

Events like Cruise for the Blues also aim to foster connections and support for those facing mental health challenges.

“Being that our main focus is around peer-to-peer support, by getting out with the group and socialising and enjoying an amazing day in the sun – we find that this enables people to not only better their personal situation but it also allows them to create a support network within the group that can assist,” Jesse said.

He added that Beyond Blue was an important cause for Wanderers Brisbane.

“Growing up I lost too many of my friends to suicide,” he said. “Being able to do something like this is very important.

Last year’s Cruise for the Blues raised more than $6,000 for Beyond Blue.

Entry is $10 per person at the gate. Kids under 12 are free. To donate, go to Fundraise Beyond Blue website and search ‘Wanderers Brisbane’. For more details on Cruise for the Blues and other events, follow ‘Wanderers Brisbane’ on Facebook.
