Bright, bubbly and fun! The Pine Rivers VIEW Club is about more than just ladies who lunch.
This amazing bunch of women do their part to raise money to support disadvantaged children through The Smith Family. They currently have more than 60 members and sponsor six Smith Family Learning for Life students.
Elizabeth Hoffmann is the publicity officer for the club. She joined in 2012 after she retired and was looking for something more in her life.
“When you retire, suddenly you haven’t got anything to fill that big gap of time anymore,” she said on why she joined the club. “Gardening and things like that are okay, but not all the time. So I took up some volunteer roles in a few places and then I thought about what else I could do when I came across an advertisement for the VIEW club in the local paper and I thought I’d see what it was all about.
“When I got to a meeting, there were actually quite a few people that I knew, but it’s also a great opportunity to meet so many other people and your social group extends quite significantly when you join things like this.”
Discover Community and Purpose at Pine Rivers VIEW Club
VIEW (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) is a national volunteer organisation, providing the opportunity for women from diverse backgrounds to meet and form friendships. With nearly 300 VIEW Clubs across Australia, the organisation welcomes women of all ages to join their efforts in supporting disadvantaged children through The Smith Family.
Along with their monthly lunches, the Pine Rivers VIEW club also has regular outings and coffee catch-ups for those wanting to get out.
“It’s a great place for women who are looking for something else in their lives once they have retired,” Elizabeth said. “Everybody talks to each other and it doesn’t matter if you don’t know anybody. There’s no pressure to do anything, it’s a friendly, welcoming environment.”
The Pine Rivers VIEW Club, which was formed in 1996, meets on the third Wednesday of each month at Murrumba Downs Tavern. Their October guest speaker will be Northside Dolls president Kerri Love and in November, Pine Rivers Koala Care equipment officer Lyn Docchab will speak.
