Fans of legendary Australian rock band Midnight Oil are in for a treat next month.

The Oils Tribute will deliver a nostalgic and high-energy performance at Thirsty Chiefs Brewing Company in North Lakes on 4 October.

Darren Field, who performs as Midnight Oil’s frontman Peter Garrett, said the band was passionately dedicated to honouring the iconic rock band.

“As lifelong fans of Midnight Oil, we aim to create a show that resonates with fellow fans,” Darren said. “Our performances are by the fans, for the fans.

“The guiding principle behind everything we do is respect. We strive to deliver a performance that not only captures the spirit and energy of Midnight Oil but also honours the legacy of the band and its devoted followers.

“The other members of The Oils Tribute take on the challenging task of replicating the sound, power and passion that define Midnight Oil’s live performances. This is perhaps the most crucial aspect of what we do, ensuring that every note and every beat feels as close, authentic and true to Midnight Oil as possible.

“Our goal is to transport the audience back to that moment when they first heard a Midnight Oil song or experienced one of their live shows.”

The two-hour concert will cover Midnight Oil’s career from 1978 to 2022, featuring hits like Beds Are Burning, Power and the Passion, The Dead Heart and Blue Sky Mine.

“We perform all the hits, deep cuts and even some songs that Midnight Oil themselves haven’t played in years,” Darren said. “It’s the kind of show I would love to attend, filled with singing, dancing and reminiscing.”

Darren said while he didn’t follow a set routine before stepping into the role of Peter Garrett, there was a moment before he hit the stage where he transformed into someone else.

“My connection with the audience is never political; it’s all about having fun with the music we grew up with,” he said. “Every song we play is a nostalgic trip, bringing back memories of school days, youth and the excitement of opening a new Oils album and putting the needle down for the first time.

“We can’t wait to bring that experience to Thirsty Chiefs.”
