The Petrie Village Shopping Centre is at the heart of Petrie’s shopping scene. This hub provides a one-stop solution for your daily needs, including a supermarket, chemist, post office, and bakery. You’ll also find Dominos, IGA, post office, and doctors and dental services in the suburb.

If you want more, though, don’t worry. Plenty of other centres are nearby, including Strathpine Centre and Westfield North Lakes. From high-street fashion to tech gadgets, these shopping centres cater to every shopping desire. North Lakes is also home to IKEA and Costco.

There are all kinds of jobs available too, not just in education but also in admin, facilities management, and student services.

And it’s not just the campus itself that’s growing—local businesses are expanding, too! New cafes, shops, and service providers are popping up all over the place to accommodate the influx of people.

There are also opportunities in retail, healthcare, construction, and hospitality, just to name a few. And of course, let’s not forget – you’re just a short commute to Brisbane CBD if you prefer to work in the city centre!

Education

Education is the heart of Petrie, with many options for kids of all ages and learning styles.

For the littlest learners, there are kindergartens and daycare centres that focus on play-based learning. Each of our centres is dedicated to helping children develop the foundational skills they need for their lifelong learning journey.

For the school years, we have Petrie State School, Kurwongbah State School, and Our Lady of the Way private school, which offer learning from Prep to Year 6.These schools offer a supportive and dynamic learning environment, including special education programs, so all children, regardless of their learning needs, can get the support they need.

For higher education, there’s the new UniSC Moreton Bay Petrie campus (University of Sunshine Coast), but before the kids get there, you’ll need to look at public high schools in neighbouring suburbs, including Pine Rivers State High School and Dakabin State High School. Or you might consider Mt Maria College, a private high school in Petrie.

Winter in Petrie is as mild as it gets, with daytime temperatures averaging 21°C and nighttime temperatures dropping to around 11°C. This cooler but still comfortable Petrie weather is ideal for exploring local hiking trails, engaging in outdoor sports, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the area without the swelter of summer heat.

Getting There and Around

Petrie’s easy connectivity is part of its appeal. Whether you’re going to work, exploring the scenery, or heading to the Brisbane metro area for a day out, you’ll have convenient access.

To Brisbane: The city is just 30km south of Petrie, and around 35-45 minutes if you’re travelling outside peak times. If you’re driving, take Dayboro Road to Gympie Road and follow that to the inner city. On your return, we recommend avoiding peak hours as traffic can really bank up from Chermside onwards. You can also catch a bus or train.

To Caboolture and Sunshine Coast: Petrie is about 25 minutes away from Caboolture via the Bruce Highway and around an hour to the Sunshine Coast.

Public Transport

  • To Brisbane: The train from Petrie to Brisbane’s Central or Roma Street station is convenient, and the travel times make it feasible for both work and leisure trips into the city.
  • To the Sunshine Coast: While a direct train from Petrie to the Sunshine Coast is unavailable, strategic connections via train and bus can get you there.
