The next inning for softball in the City of Moreton Bay is well and truly underway, with construction progressing on a new $4.8 million modern and accessible clubhouse at Talobilla Park.
The major upgrade, which officially commenced following a sod-turning ceremony late last year, is jointly funded by City of Moreton Bay and the Australian Government, with each contributing $2.4 million through the Thriving Suburbs Program.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the new facility would be a game-changer for the local softball community.[Text Wrapping Break]“This new clubhouse is a huge win for local sport and a great example of all levels of government working together to deliver for the community,” Mayor Flannery said.[Text Wrapping Break]“The clubhouse upgrade is an exciting milestone for our City, supporting local sport and attracting international events.”
Moreton Bay was recently selected as the host city for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.
Federal Member for Petrie, Emma Comer, said the Australian Government was proud to be supporting the council to deliver the project through the Thriving Suburbs Program.[Text Wrapping Break]“Projects like this not only strengthen local sport but also create opportunity and drive community connection,” Ms Comer said.
Facilities, Community Impact and What’s Next
Division 5 Councillor Sandra Ruck said the new clubhouse would include two changing rooms, an umpire room, amenities, a first aid room, an office, a clubroom, storage and a multipurpose kitchen. [Text Wrapping Break]“The new clubhouse at Kippa-Ring will not only provide modern, purpose-built amenities for players and volunteers, it will also pitch Moreton Bay as a leader in delivering accessible facilities capable of hosting major events,” Cr Ruck said.
“It will support the club’s 700 members and ensure volunteers have the facilities they need as the sport continues to grow.”
President of the Redcliffe Leagues Softball Association Carrie Te Wani said the investment was an exciting milestone for the club and the sport.[Text Wrapping Break]“The new clubhouse will give us the space and resources to keep growing the sport and welcoming new members,” Carrie said.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
