Calling all creative kids! Ever wanted to try cyanotype printmaking?

Join the Pine Rivers Art Gallery team for an introduction to cyanotype – a style of printmaking that utilises UV rays and highly pigmented minerals and salts to create unique and vibrant prints on fabric.

Drawing inspiration from Sonja and Elisa Jane Carmichael’s brilliant blue cyanotypes in exhibition, Deep Blue, this workshop provides an introduction to cyanotype printmaking, using pre-soaked fabric and paper to create a unique set of prints.

Please note that part of this workshop will take place outdoors, so dress appropriately, and don’t forget your hat and sunscreen!

Since cyanotype relies on UV exposure, the workshop is subject to weather conditions. Cyanotype chemical can stain if handled incorrectly. Please wear clothes you’re happy to get messy in – just in case!

What is cyanotype?

Cyanotype is an experimental photography method that uses light-sensitive, iron-rich salts to create high-contrast, exposed contact prints of objects. This technique relies on light exposure and negative space to produce ‘photograms,’ capturing a 2D representation of the items you place on specially treated paper or fabric. It has been around since the early 1700s!

Your ticket includes:

• disposable gloves
• guidance in applying cyanotype solution to fabric and paper
• all the tools needed to create at least 2 cyanotype prints.

Please note that gloves will be provided as the cyanotype chemicals can stain. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy—just in case!
