Murrumba Market – Christmas in July

What do you get when you mix a touch of magic, loads of entertainment, market stalls and a couple of cheeky little visitors?

Head along to the Murrumba Market – Christmas in July as they celebrate the gift of giving with a market packed to the brim with festivities and fun for the whole family.

You can indulge in a little winter festive cheer, enjoy a few tunes with an abundance of entertainment, take a stroll through and purchase goodies from the many stalls on offer and have your tastebuds tantalised with a variety of delicious treats from the food trucks.

But wait there’s more!

In the spirit of the celebration, there will also be the opportunity to join in on special activities that will fill your heart with so much joy. Kids can have their faces painted and you can watch the talented stilt walkers as they make their way around the market.

Moreton Bay Region Events co-director Eliza Burke said visitors can expect a very special night, but warned everyone to be on the lookout for two very cheeky little elves who have escaped from the North Pole.

“Come down and enjoy live music, an abundance of local vendors and food trucks, but be sure to be on your best behaviour!” Eliza said. “There will be two cheeky elves roving the market causing mischief and reporting it all back to Santa at the North Pole! We have heard they plan to create havoc among the crowd!”

So, if you’re looking for an afternoon out and about away from the hustle and bustle of life, the market is the place to be!

“We can’t wait for Murrumba Market’s Christmas in July,” Eliza said. “We’re bringing loads of FREE fun for all the local families in the area.

“Don’t miss out on this magical celebration – it’s the perfect way to create unforgettable memories with family and friends, whilst supporting local at the same time! We hope to see you there.”

The Murrumba Market – Christmas in July is proudly supported by City of Moreton Bay, Moreton Money and Moreton Bay Region Events.

Part social gathering, part Aboriginal Art Exhibition and all heart sums up this Christmas in July event where everyone is very welcome.

Aboriginal artist and event organiser, Sandra Squis (affectionately known as Auntie Sandy), will have paintings for sale and her daughter Jordana Angus will be showcasing her contemporary Indigenous jewellery.

Aunty Sandy said that her paintings were interpretations of both local scenes and extensive overseas travels.

“Some are of places like Scarborough Beach, some depict bush tucker, others are inspired by other countries I’ve visited,” Aunty Sandy said.

“They often feature repurposed materials like old doors and organic embellishments, such as snakeskin, feathers and shells.”

Aunty Sandy is also the founder and coordinator of the JOY’s Meetup Group – JOY being a fun acronym for Just Older Youngsters – a group open to everyone, especially new retirees.

“Many of the group will be in attendance to reconnect with friends and form new friendships as newcomers are very welcome,” Aunty Sandy said.

“Many people can’t wait to retire because they are burnt out. Then when they do retire they don’t know what to do. We encourage them to stay active and social and take up hobbies.

“I’ve seen people come in lonely and sad, with no one to talk to about their grief. In a few months with us, they are a different person. A much happier person with a new lease on life.

“We meet here at Xander’s Café because it is so friendly, affordably priced, the food is great and they really look after us.”

Tickets to the art exhibition are $20 per person and must be prepaid. This provides you with a plate of finger food and a hot or cold beverage of your choice.

Come mix and mingle while enjoying delicious refreshments, seeing beautiful art and hopefully picking up a prize in the raffles or lucky door prize.

For more information and to RSVP search Facebook for ‘Christmas in July Aboriginal Art Exhibition’ and message Aunty Sandy from there.

This is an event to put a smile on your face, as it embodies the spirit of joy traditionally experienced most at Christmas.
